Eleven emails. Over $90,000. Not one of them tried to sell you anything.

They were mostly text. No hero image, no coupon, no countdown clock. The product did not even show up until after the sign-off, tacked to the bottom like an afterthought.

And nowhere did a single one ask you to buy.

So how do eleven emails that never pitch a product out-earn the ones built to sell?

Everybody “knows” how this is supposed to work

To make money from email, you sell. Right?

Product up top. Three reasons it is great. A glowing customer quote. A big SHOP NOW button. And when the week gets slow, a discount to grease the wheels.

That is the playbook. Every brand runs it. You run it because the brand next door runs it, and they run it because somebody once swore that is how selling works.

It feels obvious. It feels safe.

It is also why your emails earn a half-second glance and a thumb flick.

This brand did the opposite, and the money showed up anyway

No product up top. No offer. No urgency. No pitch at all.

One opinionated essay a week. Mostly words. The kind of email you read to the end instead of skim. The product earns a mention after the sign-off, and that is the whole sales pitch. Always about something the reader already half cared about. Never on sale.

They ran this every Friday for more than 14 months. Here is one stretch of it, straight from the reports:

  • 11 of these emails made $90,263.97. Offers attached: zero.
  • The “heart healthy” diet piece alone made $12,169.39 from a single send.
  • One asking “Who told you to eat breakfast?” made $12,037.58 at better than a 40% open rate.
  • A take on baby formula pulled $9,348.61.
  • Open rates ran 30% to 65%, week after week.

And these were not gentle. They went after the “heart healthy” label and asked who profits from it.

They poked at a 1960s diet fad that still runs the grocery store.

They noted a doctor can finish med school with about a weekend of nutrition training.

They took a swing at Ozempic.

Some readers loved it. Some hit reply to call us idiots.

Both kept opening. Both kept buying.

People do not buy because you sold them

They buy because they trust you. Because you said the thing they were already thinking, or the thing nobody else had the nerve to say.

A discount cannot do that. Ten percent off means nothing to someone who has not decided they want you yet. But an opinion they cannot stop chewing on?

That moves them.

So by the time the product shows up at the bottom, the selling is already finished. It happened in the first paragraph, not the last.

Sell less. Say more. Sell more.

You have got two roads

One is the road you are on. Keep sending the email everyone sends. Keep cutting prices when you get nervous. Keep training your list that full price is for suckers and a better coupon is always coming. Keep blending into an inbox already drowning in SHOP NOW.

The other road is harder at the start and far better later. Write a real letter. Take a real position. Say something true and a little dangerous. Build a list that opens your emails on purpose, because they actually want to hear from you.

One road rents attention for a day. The other buys it for good.

Here is the honest catch

Almost nobody can pull this off.

It takes people who can actually write, a point of view worth printing, and enough real knowledge to say something true and risky every week without running dry. Most brands do not have that. So they stay stuck cutting prices, wondering why every win is a one-off.

Which is exactly why it works so well when you can do it.

You do not need a bigger list. You do not need a deeper discount. You need something worth saying, and a system to say it every single week.

Quick recap

You were told selling takes selling. Push the product, cut the price, push again.

The receipts say otherwise. Eleven emails that pitched nothing, just text and a product mention after the sign-off, made $90,263.97.

The truth is simpler than the playbook. Take a stand. Earn trust. Let the right people come to you.

That is the part we build. Want eleven of these working for your brand?
